(Except from the Foreward to Doing What Jesus Did)

“Rarely have I read a book like this one--that so ignited my passions in two ways: (1) to love Jesus more deeply, and (2) to minister His life, love and power more dynamically. As you take it in hand, it may appear to be a handbook of principles on New Testament life, but it’s actually more of a catapult to move forward in living it--that is, to live out that full dimensioned life Christ came to multiply through us, not only bring to us!

At the bottom line, this is what discipleship is really about. It begins with God’s Word, but it isn’t completed until we learn how to do His Son’s works. So welcome to a textbook for real disciples, and welcome to meeting with two faith-stimulators--John and Sonja Decker. They are trustworthy leaders, proven faithful servants, gifted teachers and anointed communicators who make genuine, vibrant, Spirit-filled living so practical you find yourself wanting to do something about your love for Christ.”

Doing What Jesus Did is one of the most practical tools I have ever seen for equipping the saints. John and Sonja are anointed teachers who have taught leaders in churches in the USA and many foreign countries. Their wisdom is intensely practical and translates across all ethnic and social barriers. I highly recommend this book to men and women who want to base their ministry on a foundation that is scripturally solid and enduring.”

This is certainly the most detailed, practical, how-to manual on spiritual warfare I have ever seen. It is well organized, and the use of ministry anecdotes to illustrate the scriptural principles is unique. The dispensational and traditional evangelical readers who reject the use of the charismatic gifts in the contemporary church will, of course, resist it. Written from the classical Pentecostal position, this book avoids the rigid formulas of the word of faith position while affirming the sovereignty of God as the Holy Spirit works. Emphasizing the role of spiritual discernment in the prophetic word, the Deckers show how the Christian can work in the power and leadership of the Spirit to lead others to minister through the spiritual gifts.

The manual maintains an orthodox Trinitarian position and emphasizes that the ministry of and the baptism in the Holy Spirit are founded upon the incarnational and personal work of Christ in the atonement of the cross and resurrection. While not all evangelicals will agree with this strong charismatic emphasis in ministry, it is clear that the present cultural situation in the world is so deeply involved in spiritual activity that the church needs to respond through spiritual means in order to be effective in evangelism and discipleship today. The Deckers have presented a thoughtful and practical training manual for preparing Christians for effective spiritual ministry.

“This is a great read! John and Sonja Decker understand what people need to know and understand about the Kingdom of God to be ministering people who can serve in the life-flow of Jesus Christ. In my opinion, every leader in today’s church needs to read this book.”

Doing What Jesus Did is a captivating book. It is Biblical and balanced, simple and sound, informative and inspiring, practical and proven—an extremely valuable tool to equip the saints for the work of ministry in doing what Jesus did. John and Sonja Decker not only talk about “doing the stuff,” they do it and show others how to do it—the works of Jesus, including miracles.

After more than thirty years of “doing the stuff” around the world, the Deckers are experienced practitioners and gifted trainers in leading others into supernatural ministry, both in the marketplace and the meeting place. They have discovered how to multiply ministry through the “training of trainers” who learn six essential and reproducible ministry strategies Jesus Himself modeled and taught His disciples—winning the lost, empowering for ministry, healing the sick, hearing God’s voice, knowing the Spirit’s leading, and casting out demons.

Doing What Jesus Did is the best way to communicate and demonstrate the Gospel “in all the world as a witness to all nations” as we anticipate the end of this age and the return of our Savior in power and great glory.

“What a treasure chest of practical guidelines and stories! Certainly 21st century Christianity is too much about theory and too little about practice. Theoretical, philosophical, doctrinal Christianity was meant to be a launching pad for powerful, personal, experiential Christianity. I hope every believer gets to discover for himself/herself the rich treasures in Doing What Jesus Did.”
