DWJD Goes to the Printer

Doing What Jesus Did (DWJD) was submitted to the book manufacturer for printing and binding. What a project! We had no idea how much time and detailed effort it takes to produce a book.

Ten-hour days and burning the candle until midnight became the norm during the final edit. We are so thankful for Greg and Karen Fry, who literally put aside their normal life and took over during the January “push” for the February 1 deadline. The last night, they never went to bed because of packing and leaving at 4:00 a.m. for a week’s vacation in Mexico. We salute these troopers!

A Sneak Peak from the Introduction to DWJD

The book's Introduction shows how every Christian can be empowered for ministry.

Doing What Jesus Did (DWJD) is a practical, 330 page, step-by-step guide for Christians that illustrates how to pray and minister to others in the power and revelation of the Holy Spirit. One-third of the book is dedicated to Scripture that clearly reveals Jesus’ plan for all Christians to begin doing what He did, including the miracles.

In John 14:12, Jesus promises His followers that they would do the things He did, even greater things. This book sets forth a biblical approach for doing what Jesus did. It opens the way for ordinary Christians to not only learn how, but to practice ministering to others by relying upon the rev-elation, authority, and power of the Holy Spirit.

Chapter One shows how easy it is to lead people to the Lord.

Chapter Two shows how to lead Christians into the Holy Spirit.

The other two-thirds of the book is dedicated to thirty years’ worth of stories and personal examples that illustrate how the Lord confirmed His Word to John and Sonja with signs, wonders, and miracles. Each chapter shows believers how to enter into the different aspects of ministry.

Chapter Three shows how every Christian can pray and see God heal the sick.

Did Jesus really mean it? Did He authorize the twelve only? Have these promises passed away? Some professors, teachers, and pastors teach us that these Scriptures apply to the early apostles and to a time long ago. How could Jesus promise this unless He intended it for all His disciples? Does this promise exclude us? Did He mean for us to actually do what He did? If so, how do we appropriate this promise? What do we need to know? We believe participating in authentic demonstrations of the Holy Spirit’s power is the best remedy for unbelief. We should go to where it is happening.

Our Doctor Went To Thailand

Chapter Four shows how every Christian can hear God's voice.

Believers desperately need to be discipled and mentored in this type of ministry. At our Ministry Training Centers (MTC), we teach a series of ministry skills as part of the weekly instruction. After thorough teaching and extensive practicing of the skills, students are ready to minister wherever they go. The following chapters outline these ministry skills.

One of our students, Dr. Carl Berner who is a surgeon, came to us and said, “I truly believe all of these accounts of miraculous, instantaneous healings and people being set free from demonic spirits because I not only hear it from you two, but I see Jesus doing it in the Bible. However, I have not seen that firsthand for myself, so my wife (she is a surgical nurse) and I want to go with you on your next trip to Thailand.” They did go with us, along with other professionals and executives who were in that graduating class. They not only saw miracle healings, they saw them happen through their own hands.

Chapter Five shows how to heal the sick by revelation from the Holy Spirit.

The demon manifested on the other side of the room. As John walked over and looked at the woman, he saw she was on the floor and in full demonic manifestation. He, of course, knew this only by the Holy Spirit’s revelation gift of discerning of spirits.

...he suspected it was a demonic spirit.

Dr. Berner related that the woman’s two caregivers had brought her forward for prayer for her bad heart. When the team began to pray for her, she had collapsed and seemed unconscious. Her caregivers thought she was having a heart attack. Dr. Berner immediately took her pulse and found it was steady and strong. From what he had learned in our MTC classes, he suspected it was a demonic spirit, and that was why he had brought John to assess the situation. It is humorous to think back on the scene. Dr. Berner who is six-foot-three-inches tall was in back of John and leaning forward so he would not miss a second of the ministry. John said later that he could feel Carl’s whiskers on his cheek!

Chapter Six shows how to deal with demons in foreign countries.

She had a grotesque look on her face. This deliverance was like many others we have seen. John had the caregivers stand the woman up on her feet. Her eyes were rolling around, and she could not focus them. She had a grotesque look on her face and was making moaning sounds. John addressed the demonic spirit by saying, “You spirit of infirmity, I command you to come out of this woman, in the name of Jesus!” After a few minutes the spirit was expelled, she literally came to herself, and a beautiful smile graced her face. She was set free and healed. It was wonderful. Dr. Berner had witnessed a spiritual deliverance “up close and personal.” It is exciting to hear this wonderful man, this skilled surgeon, relate these supernatural experiences. He said, “I will never forget this experience!

Chapter Six shows how to deal with demons in America.

Jesus gave us the power and authority by which we do these things. He proclaimed this promise to “anyone who has faith in Me.” That includes every Christian. There is no higher name or authority in the universe than the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. To Him we give all the glory, all the credit, and all the praise.
