Leadership Summit
Palm Springs, California — We were extremely privileged to be invited to the National Leadership Summit for the International Church of the Foursquare Gospel held at Smoke Tree Ranch, Palm Springs, California January 10-13. It was a humbling experience to fellowship with men and women from the top echelon of national and international Foursquare leadership. All district supervisors, the Foursquare cabinet, and the board were in attendance. Dr. Jack W. Hayford, President of the International Church of the Foursquare Gospel hosted the event and led most of the main sessions. We were invited by Dr. Hayford to join him for breakfast along with Reverend Jim Tolle, senior pastor of Church on the Way, Van Nuys, California. We discussed The Ambassador Series as a possible discipleship curriculum for Foursquare churches.
Our book Doing What Jesus Did was given in advance to all the leaders who attended the summit. The book was part of the “front-loading” for the entire summit. We had many pastors thank us and Dr. Hayford for making the book available to them. They said it was a powerful reminder for us to return to our Foursquare roots and re-engage in the supernatural of God. This is what made Foursquare unique and attractive in the beginning years.
Dr. Lloyd Ogilvie, retired chaplain of the United States Senate, led us into God’s Word each morning. His insights and revelation from the Word are profound and Spirit-led. John and Sonja attended separate Task Team brainstorming sessions each day. Topics included our calls to: Leadership, Apostolic Ministry, Discipleship, Unity and Uniqueness, and to the Nations. We were privileged be a part of the fresh strategy for evangelization and church growth that is emerging from entrepreneurial leaders who are listening to the voice of the Lord and obeying His commands.
